This painting is inspired by the beauty of the Streamways Trail in western Lenexa. I love the variety of scenes and smooth riding on this trail. The drama of the changing trees and the effect of light and shadow captured my mind and heart on this particular day.

This scene reminds me of the countless times I explored and hiked around in the snowy fields surrounding my hometown as a child. I loved the freedom to be in nature unsupervised.

The Gary Heller trail provides benches for moments rest and a place to enjoy the company of a friend. The scale of the 87th street bridge dwarfs the human soul—echoing the grand size of the trees and other landscape features.
